Part One:
When I become a teacher, I would want to help each student as much as I can. Like I said in the beginning of the semester, I know every person doesn't learn the same so I would hope that I could aid to each individual as uniquely as they are. I would also like to have as many hands-on learning activities as possible. From experiencing all the different hands-on learning throughout the semester, I am eager to bring all of that to my classroom. Learning should be fun and I want to create an atmosphere where each student wants to come to school. I really want my children in my classroom to have the urge to learn, I know that there is always that one kid that just doesn't want to be there and doesn't want to learn. But children like that I want to change their way of thinking of school. This really makes me think about Anthony Capps' third grade class, he had a kid in his class that never showed up for school in her previous years at school and when she came to his class, she always showed up and become one of his best students. If I can just help one kid love school and make an impact in their life then I will be okay. In the beginning of the semester, I said that I don't think I would use more advanced tools other than a white board and a marker and that I will probably make up learning games that the children can do. But I think I have evolved. I would really like to have my students have iPads or computers in the classroom. I've noticed that adults remember things better from elementary if the information was put into a song, that is probably another tool I would use, I would use this along with other technologies in the classroom. As for what will go in my classroom, I love flowers and girly stuff but that probably wouldn't be the best things to put in there. I love colorful items and furniture, so that's most likely what I'll do. I want to have something where the children can relax and not stress out about whatever is going on in their life. So I will try to have a place where they can read their AR books and just relax. I really want to base my classroom activities or lessons off of Mr. Capps' classroom. I love the atmosphere that he created and how all his students wanted and crave knowledge. I really want to teach third grade, although I heard you don't get to chose what grade you want to teach. But I will be more than happy to teach any grade.

Teacher Knows if You've Done the E-Reading
CourseSmart has come up with a digital textbook. This allows teachers to track what a student has read and the key components they have highlighted. A problem has that has come up is that one student was doing ok on his quizzes but when the teacher looked at his textbook tracking, the student had only opened the book once. Another problem is that the software was having problem. For instance, one student had opened the book more than once but it was reported that the student only opened it once. By the end of the experiment, Mr. Guardia, who was testing the digital textbook, realized that his students tests scores were higher but their engagement into the textbook was still low. Maybe the textbook is too easy or maybe the course is too easy. Mr. Guardia is confused on this.
As a teacher I would love to have this in my classroom then I would know who is doing their work and who is working hard. But questions would arise when a student is regularly reading the material but not doing well on my quizzes or tests. Or like what happened in Mr. Guardia's class, a student who does ok on my tests and quizzes but only opens the book once. Or what about the students that don't actually read, they just open the book to make it seem like they are reading.
If this applied to me now as a college student, I would think it would be very dumb. I'm already paying my money to go to school and get my degree but now my teacher needs to know if I'm doing my readings every night. I would feel like my teacher should trust me enough to do my readings at night and if I don't then my grade will suffer.
A question I would ask the teacher is would he use it again? If it's worth it.
A question for the students would be if they felt like their trust is being challenged.
A comment I would write would be, although CourseSmart made this book out of benefit to the teacher, I think it draws a thicker line between the teacher and student and makes a relationship more business-like. Instead of the teacher actually caring about the student and the student wanting the teachers approval.

Krissy Venosdale
Ms. Venosdale's class is in the NASA Zero Gravity program. Because they were chosen to do this they get to make up different experiments that would be taken out to space. For instance, they experimented with different fabrics that would be used out in space. Ms. Venosdale mentioned that this experience has taken thinking and learning to a whole new level and I completely agree with her. I think students should be engaged in more activities that involve the real world.

Final Report on PLN

First starting off with this PLN, I was very overwhelmed. Thinking that I had so much to do on every network. But as time went on, I became more comfortable with it. I still believe that PLNs should be for older people, like high school or college age, maybe even middle school. Because having a PLN takes a lot of time, dedication, and focus which I don't believe children should be doing right now at least. As I said earlier, as time went on my PLN became easy and I can maneuver around anything! Practice makes perfect!

Vanessa L
Vanessa was approached with the question what does she gain as a student blogging with other student in and out of her school, and is it worth her time? Although she never really stated if it was worth her time, I am going to assume that she does because she enjoys meeting new people all around the world. She also said that she learns about real life by blogging. She learns that even though you blog someone, you may never meet them in real life. I guess this shows Vanessa the more realistic side of life.

Megan O
Megan lives in Nebraska and her post was all about state facts. She mentioned Nebraska's state insect which is the honey bee, their state fish which is a catfish, their state drink which is kool-aid, their state dance which is square dancing. She also goes on to talk about the state tree, grass, fossil, and bird. She said Henry Dorly Zoo is a great place to visit in Nebraska. I never knew there were so many different state symbols but her post was very informative.

Clancy
This week, at the Leopold Primary School, a 5th grade class had a one week project to do. Clancy, the 5th grader I was assigned, did his project on thorny devils. A thorny devil is a desert animal, it has a fake head that grows back when attacked by birds. Female Thorny devils are bigger than males because they have to carry babies.

Progress Report on Final Project

Since my group is the "special" group, we already pretty much know what our project is going to be. It's just a matter of getting it all together. I am so thankful that I was put into this group because each person is so hardworking and dedicated to what they do. We already have an idea of what our project 16 is, we just need to meet up and get it done.

Paul Anderson
Mr. Anderson uses a blended learning cycle for his classroom. Blended learning is online, classroom, and mobile learning and blending them together. The learning cycle is engaging, exploring, explaining, expanding, and then evaluating. Putting together blended learning and the learning cycle, that is in fact the blended learning cycle. Mr. Anderson begins this cycle by asking his students a question, which is like a hook. He then has them investigate on the question. Next is video, it allows him to review with his students and it help students go back and which his lecture as many times as they want. Then, elaboration, this is when he assigns readings about the specific topic. Review is after that, this allows him to check the students understanding of the topic and the students are not allowed to move on to the final step until they fully understand. Finally, the summary quiz, this tests them on what they know. After Mr. Anderson has given a couple of this cycles, he then gives a unit test. I think Mr. Anderson's strategy is awesome. It really makes the students be engaged in what they are doing, they can't just half do the work. It really fits the field that he is in. With that being said, I think that it could fit any field that someone is in if tweaked a little.

Blog Post 12

1. Visit Occupational Outlook read though each tab on the page.

2. Write a brief summary about what you looked at. What did you find that you didn't know about already? Is the work environment what you expected? Is the average pay what you expected?

3. Look through this Similar Occupations

4. Write a post about what you found on this tab. Which job is close in pay to the one you want? Would you want to further your education for a similar occupation?

My response:

Occupational Outlook
On this website, it tells you all about what you need to know about being an elementary teacher. While on this site, I looked at what kind of degree it takes to become an elementary teacher, the type of on-the-job training it takes, the number of jobs that were available in 2010, and what the pay was. What I found on the site that I didn't know already was the pay. I thought that most teachers got paid like 30,000 but actually, they get paid on average 51,380. With that being said, the average pay is not what I expected it to be. The working environment seems to be exactly what I thought it was going to be. What I like about this site, is that it tells you about the positive and negatives of teaching.

Similar Occupations
There are a lot of similar occupations to that of elementary education. Some that I didn't even think about. For example, teacher assistants, career and technical educational teachers, instructional coordinators, and postsecondary teachers. Middle school teachers are the closest in pay to what elementary teachers get paid. This actually surprises me because I expected middle school teachers to get paid closer to what high school teachers get paid because they have to take the same amount of classes in college. As for wanting to possibly furthering my education, I would want to become a principal after teaching for a while. For that to happen, I would have to get my master's degree.

Larry Ferlazzo
Mr. Ferlazzo had a guest post this week by John Thompson. In this guest post he was talking about how people are worrying about scores and bad teachers that just teach the test. Colleges are now not taking standardized tests as seriously in Texas because teachers are only teaching the test. So school systems are weening out the bad teachers and poor working students. But John with a bunch of colleagues started fighting back because as school systems are worried about getting the bad teachers out, they have ignored the good teachers and students. They are fighting for those teachers.

Well it seems as though I have Mr. Ferlazzo again. This week, well actually today he made a post with recent articles and posts of the educational policies. He has included links to Valerie Strauss’ blog at The Washington Post, Linda Darling Hammond being interviewed, John Prosser's post on the overall educational policy, Diane Ravitch’s blog post about raising concerns about teaching in America.

Mrs. Goerend's 5th grade class were writing posts about amendments. Dilan said if it weren't for Martin Luther King Jr. or Rosa Parks, his life would be totally different. He said that he wouldn't have his friends Ian and Bradley.

Chloe
This week Chloe had volleyball tryouts. She was so excited about the tryout and the tips the coach gave her. When the day was over, she rushed home to her computer to find that she had made the first cut.

Hosannah
Hosannah had to write a ten sentence story based on a picture. Her picture was of a dog on a surf board in a body of water. She starts off her story be wondering why the dog is on the surf board, but then all of a sudden, the dog falls off the surf board. He paddles back to the surf board, gets on, and shakes off the water. He decides to face his fears and swim to the shore. That is when Hosannah finds him and comforts him.

Ms. Cassidy

This first video was about how first grades use technology. They are learning how to use the internet and how to blog. They mention that each time that they blog they get better and better at writing. One of the first graders talked about what to say when commenting on someone else's blog. They also use smartboards for interactive learning and more hands-on learning. As for further learning and ideas, they will look up thing on wiki or other web pages. They use skype to talk to other children from other classrooms to help them understand anything they are confused about. I know that it usually seems that I am completely against technologies but I'm really not. I just don't believe it is right for technology to take the place of a teacher. With that being said, I wouldn't be totally against having my students blog. That would be one of the technologies that I would use in my classroom that Ms. Cassidy talked about in her skype video. It would be a way for them to express themselves or like Ms. Cassidy's first graders, it could improve their writing skills. It would also show them how to look things up on the internet.

cartoon

I believe that this cartoon is explaining that although something looks nice and is cheap, like the papermate, it may not always be affordable. The ticonderoga has more of a cheaper look because he has a t-shirt and jeans but is also the most expensive thing. I think the underlying message is don't judge a book by it's cover.

John Spencer
Spencer explains in his post "Why Are Your Kids Playing Games" that he is teaching his kids various scenarios and solutions in a factory setting. This approach is more hands-on. The principal on the other hand, sees this as a game. No matter what is being taught, he strictly does not permit games. At the end of this post, the principal tells the Spencer what should be taught instead of his silly games. Spencer takes this as his way of changing the game. I see Spencer has a rebellious side, honestly. Most teachers would have just agreed with the principal and went on lecturing students. Spencer took this as another challenge.
The post that I chose to read was "The Con Academy"

Scott McLeod
Scott McLeod travels to different schools. He likes to visit schools that "live on the cutting edge of deeper learning." I think that McLeod makes a strong point in this blog post by stating all the wrong things that are out there for students. He goes to the extremes by saying kids should be locked away from all sorts of technologies. Normally, I would disagree with technologies taking the place of teachers in the long run. But in this case, I don't think kids should be shut away from how to read hyperlinks, or RSS or how to maneuver around the web. I believe it is important for kids to be exposed to everything out there, the good and the bad.

Blog Post 9

Mr. McClung

Mr. McClung's blog post on what he has learned volume 4, talked about how he wanted to write something that he hasn't said in the previous blog posts. But he realized that he hasn't learned as much as he did his other years of teaching. One of the things he learned this year was remember what you came here to do and who to please. He said he spent most of his year trying to get his peers to like him. He had already tried to please his superiors and students but he really wanted to worry about what his peers thought about him. By trying to please his peers, he ended up changing who he was as a teacher. He realized that nothing positive ever came out of adult's opinion of him. All that matter to him was the students that he had. The second thing that he learned this year is that it is really easy to have a routine once you start teaching for a while. But whenever you get a routine, you as a teach become lazy and the classwork becomes boring for the students. Therefore, the students are uninterested. McClung was offered a higher level grade to teach for next year and he decided to take it so he can always challenge himself and not have his lesson plans become routine and boring. In Mr. McClung's first post about how his year went, he first talked about how when being a teacher, it is not all about you. It is about the student. The students comprehension is the biggest thing to worry about. Next he talked about being flexible when making lesson plans. He said he would get mad, when plans didn't go his way. But what he learned the most was to cope with the situation and make the best of it. Another thing that he has learned is communication is best for any situation, talk it out if you have a problem with someone. In addition to that, don't scold children when they don't meet your expectation. Pick them up after they fail and encourage them to do better. All of Mr. McClung's posts where very informative. He said things that oncoming teachers don't really think about. By reading his blog posts, it made me realize that I might do something that he talked about not doing.

Richard Miller
Miller was talking about how writing can be in more of a creative way. There will be new ways of telling stories and getting information out. He believes it is fundamentally different. This kind of technology doesn't bother me when I think about applying it to elementary students. It's a way to get their creativity out. I wouldn't solely rely on this for my students for them to develop writing skills but I would definitely use it as a project.

Carly Pugh
Carly was talking about how she was being lazy and that was unusual for her. But they she decided to do her blog post. She quickly got excited because she realized she could right about anything she wanted to. She was talking about her approaches when she becomes a teacher. I think Carly did come really close to Dr. Miller's thoughts on multimedia technology.

Chipper Series and EDM for Dummies
In the Chipper Series it was about a girl who was in Dr. Strange's class and she didn't like his teaching ways. So she drops out of school and starts her own school, it was a fail. She gets a job as a teacher but ends up getting fired because she didn't show up for work. Then she became a server Waitress and that didn't work out. Her next jobs were being a nanny and a garbage collector. All in all, she goes back to school to get her masters degree. EDM for Dummies is like a commercial that has students that are going crazy before they had got EDM310 for Dummies, the book. After they got the book, their life was so much better.

Learn to Change, Change to Learn
I don't believe that they were "attacking" the way that we know of schooling today. I think they were gently telling us that the work is changing and new technologies are forming out there. They were saying that we, as educators, need to be aware of what is going on and be able to apply that to the classroom. What also was said is that school is one form of learning but so are our communities, libraries, and internet. I like that this was said but it's not forgetting that teachers need to teach. Nowadays, teachers don't even teach and I think they are losing their credibility this way.

Blog Post 7

Randy Pausch
Pausch begins by telling what his childhood dreams were. He says that it is very important to have specific dreams. One of his dreams was to be in zero gravity and he got to experience that with a group of students of his that won a contest. At first NASA wasn't going to let him participate but he negotiated with them. This is important because one of his themes is to always bring something to the table, people will be more welcoming that way. Another dream of his was to play for the NFL. He never got to play but he said he got more out of not achieving that goal than he did when he achieved his other goals. He learned that whenever someone is doing poorly and no one comes to correct you, that is very bad. Critics are the ones that still care about you. Being Captain Kirk was another dream of his. He learned that you don't have to be the smartest to have great leadership. There are more dreams that he talked about but he kept bringing up "brick walls." Those are there to show you your dedication.

He always wanted to push his kids to the best of their ability. Like whenever he was first teaching his VR class, the kids stumped him when they turned in their first assignment and he didn't know what to do next. So he told his students that they did good but he knows they can do better. Each time, they kept impressing him. He would take his students out to field trips and everything they did was project-based. He believes that the best way to teach someone something is to "head fake," making someone think they are learning something they aren't. His techniques were never lose the child-like wonder, help others, have loyalty to others, and never give up.

Pausch has such an amazing way of putting words together. He can make an hour long lecture so interesting. I do believe in everything that he has said. Never losing your child-like wonder can go for not only me but my students. I've always wanted to help someone and being a teacher just fits me so well. I want to show my kids that they too can achieve their dreams. Helping others will come easy to me because I will be in a field where I always help someone. But I think Pausch wants you to go above and beyond to help someone. Loyalty to others will pay off in the end. If you show someone that you trust them an put your faith in them, they will in return have loyalty for you. Never give up, Pausch didn't get into Brown or Carnegie but he kept pushing on.

In the end, Pausch showed his methods of teaching and they were be good at something, it makes you valuable. You can't be good at everything but if you channel one thing then eventually you can help others. The next method is work hard. Make people ask you "what's your secret?" Hard work pays off. Another method is find the best in everyone; no matter how you have to wait for them to show it. Not everyone is going to get it right away but if you wait long enough, they will impress you. This can go back to me teaching in the classroom, not every student is going to understand the first time. But if I wait, they will surprise me. Lastly, be prepared.

Progress Report on PLN

When first developing my PLN, I was overwhelmed with all the tools of technology that I had to download. I still trying to get a grasp of everything, such as my twitter. I never had a twitter before coming to this class. But each time I use it, I become a little more knowledgeable. I still believe that a PLN should be for an older kid or adult and not for elementary students. Having my own PLN has showed me to not wait on a teacher to tell you what to do or when to do it, I have figured things out on my own and taken responsibility for my work.

Kathleen Morris
This week, Kathleen Morris has tips on starting classroom blogs for new blogger. Her tips were basically, start small, don't start with making long blogs. Her next tip was to blog on a regular basis so you can get familiar with the blog. Her tip for teacher wanting their students to eventually having their own blog was to first start off with a class bog so that the students can get used to commenting and the blogging world. All and all, keep it going and don't give up. Blogging gets easier the more you do it.

Project 10

I really enjoy the idea of a Promethean board. This technology that I would want to use would be a CPS Chalkboard but for all of the children. I'm not quite sure if more than one can be hooked up to the Promethean board. If not then I will stay like to have it and it will be something that can be passed around for each kid to use or many a group of kids to do. What a CPS Chalkboard is, it allows to to use any program on the internet and draw or illustrate on the Promethean board without actually going to the front of the room and writing on it. I like hands-on working so this would be something that all the kids can do hands-on. It will be fun for the kids.

Blog Post 6

computers The Networked Student

The Networked Student by Wendy Drexler posted on the EDM301 Class blog, starts off by explaining there is a student studying American Psychology, there is no required text book and the teacher never does lectures. His teacher uses connectivism, which means learning occurs within a social network of many diverse connects and ties. It helps students connect with others around the world, the connects are better than the tools itself. In order to do connectivism, the student has to create a Personal Learning Network. He looks up things on Google scholar and reads other peoples blog and then he forms his own opinions on his own blog. They explain that on iPods, iTunesU contains lectures from professors all over the world. He also posts his knowledge on wikisites so that other people can learn from it as well. Teachers are needed for this because teachers show students how to use this network. Teachers also show guidance when students get stuck, how to communicate properly, and ask respectfully for help from others.
Call me old fashion, but I still believe in teachers teaching students in person, in a classroom. I don't believe students should learn from a computer. The way the world is moving, teachers will be rare to none because everyone is learning from a computer. I believe that it is important for students to know how to efficiently research but for them to completely learn from the computer is absurd! Information that a student can get from the internet, a teacher should know. As for the networked student, the lectures that he is listening to on his iTunesU should be the lecture that a teacher should do in a classroom. I don't think connectivism is a complete waste, I think it should be used as a project. Like a final project, that you've had all semester to do.

A 7th Grader's Personal Learning Environment

That student was basically learning from the internet. I still don't like that students are learning from the computer rather than a teacher. Having a PLE, a student will never need a teacher expect for showing them how to start it and if a student gets stuck. I just think that this is the world becoming lazy and relying on the computer to teach today's children.

If I Built A School
Krissy Vensodale is a Gifted Ed Teachers and I can tell by her blog that she loves colorful things. In her blog about "If I built A School" she explains that if she had a school she would love to have a huge sign that said "Welcome: Now Entering an Innovation Zone." She goes on to say that there would be colorful walls, comfy seating for kids, and a treehouse in the library. She wants to have a brightly painted bus that teachers could take their students on field trips any time of the day. She wants the building to be full of wonder and to not have any state tests. If I were to build a school, I would probably build one like the Elementary school I went to. Expect I would have every wall in the hall wall full of bright colors. The teachers would be able to decorate their room any way they would want to. The bathrooms would constantly have bubbles everywhere, because I love bubbles. The cafeteria would have a wide variety of foods to choose from and the tables wouldn't be those hard uncomfortable tables. I would have couches and comfy chairs and bean bags, because kids love bean bags.

Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir
Technology continues to surprise me everyday. This virtual choir is amazing! Who would have every thought about doings this. Everyone's voices go so well together and it's mind blowing because they have never met each other before. Such wonderful sounds are being made. You never know, but this maybe how music can evolve in the future.

Teaching in the 21st Century
What Roberts means to teach in the 21st century means that students nowadays can look up anything they want, any time of the day, anywhere they are. So what are teachers here for? He believes that teachers should be the one to filter and show students how to properly use google, twitter, and all the other expanding technologies. He wants teachers to teach about plagiarism and copyrights because students don't know what that is. I feel that Roberts is coming from a very logically stand point. The world is evolving fast and kids can now look up anything and so why do they need teachers? He is right that teachers can show students how to properly use the technologies in the world. If by chance he is right and the world catches on to this video, then teachers teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic will be no more. Schools every where would have to have computers so teachers can show their students how to use a computer to benefit them later on in life. By getting the students engaged and not entertained, by what Roberts said.

Flipped Classroom
I believe that flipping the classroom is for older kids. Not for kids in elementary. If I were to teach secondary education I could see how this would be useful to me but I want to teach elementary level so I think just teaching the regular way would be great for me.

Ipod
Langwitches
The first article that I read was the listening-comprehension podcast, the main objective that Ms. Tolisano was getting to was not for her students to have fun with the garbagband tool, but to able to listen, comprehend, use speaking skills, and critically think about the stories. She said for kids to learn new vocabulary words, the students has to hear the word at least 70 times. Podcasting is a great way to hear the word used in different ways and different sentences. Watching the benefits of podcasting in the classroom , really opened my eyes to what I can do whenever I become a teacher. It can help the students relate to learning in more of a relevant way. It can help my students use higher thinking skills that they can use in later in life. Using my own podcast this semester, can help me later on in life because I can use it in the classroom when I become a teacher. Jody Scharf Podcast Collection really helped me understand what exactly a podcast is. I was really unsure of what a podcast is and what you have to do. This helped clarify what I have to do when I do my Podcasting project.

WolframAlpha Search
The WolframAlpha search proved that the United States population is much lower than China's and India's. China's population is 1.35 billion, India's population is 1.21 billion people, and the United States population is 209 million. My next search was the comparison of the number of cell phones used in the United States and in China. My results were that based in 2011, China used 968.3 million cell phones and the United States used 331.6 million cell phones. My last search was the comparison in infant birth rate to the United States to the infant birth rates in Canada. My results were the United States have 4.29 million infants a year and Canada have 335216 infants a year, these results are based on a 2008 data search. Using the WolframAlpha Search can help not only myself but my students too because it can help compare different things throughout the world. Compare different countries, see how different each country is, and how each country lives. It can also help by showing how much the United States has changed in the past 5 years.

Gary Hayes Social Media Count
In Gary Hayes Social Media Count, it showed the many different social, mobile, games, ect., numbers that are constantly moving. For example, it showed how many likes and comments were being posted to Facebook every second, or the number of app being downloaded every second. Watching those number move so fast put reality on how fast the world is moving. I already knew that the world was moving fast but I never realized how fast it is actually moving. For me and my professional career, it shows me that all the technologies and gadgets I use now may not be available or may be outdated by the time I'm a teacher. Or that the techniques that my teachers used to teach me, will probably not work for my future students.

Peer Review
The video and slideshow was very informing. Although I have learned about peer reviewing throughout high school and in English classes from South, the video was a refreshment for me. What I learn from the video and slideshow was to always be positive when critiquing others because after all, I wouldn't want someone to be rude to me. When peer reviewing, you should be specific so your peer knows what you're talking about. It's important to stick to grammatical errors that the writer did and the clarity of the writing.
For my C4C, that classmate that I was assigned, I really liked her stance that she made. She made it very clear on where she stood on her opinion about the videos. The only grammatical errors I found was that she didn't capitalize "I." I would chose to comment on the blog publicly. The blog is publicly so I don't see why correcting it in the public would be any different.

Assistive Technologies
Wow. Technology is so amazing. I was completely mind blown after watching those videos. I honestly did not want them to end. I learned so much that I didn't even know about. I never really realized that math would be an issue for someone that is blind, actually, it never even crossed my mind. I think it's amazing that people are out there coming up with solutions to help people who are blind learn. The only problem that I could see arising is that it is time consuming to scan each letter and check to make sure they are all lined up.
If I had a blind student in my class, I would try my best to accommodate him or her. Hopefully, I would be able to get a mountbatten so I first of all, learn how to use it and secondly, be able to help my student out as best as I can. Technology is advancing so rapidly and I love it for basically these reasons alone. It can help out so many different people around the world. When doing the questionnaire, I put that I didn't know what an iBook was and after watching the video about the iPad, I am informed. I would raise money to get iPads in my classroom so everyone can learn from it not just the blind students.

Vicki Davis
Vicki Davis' video on harness your students' digital smarts is showing people how much technology can be used in the classroom. Vicki Davis shows her students how to properly blog, create different websites, and to connect to people all around the world. She believes the students can't learn by just simply using a pen and paper. She teaches her students how to work new software and how to collaborate with other students. She wants all of her students to be comfortable with any technology that comes their way. She also wants her students to know how to research well by looking up words that they don't know. I love that Mrs. Davis wants to show her students new ways to use software. With the advancing world, I think that is a wonderful thing for her to do. I think her making her students look up words that they don't know will help them in the future when they have research projects.

"Did you know?"
In the video, "Did you know?" by Dr. John Strange linked to EDM 310 Class Blog, he is discussing numerous statistics about how the world is rapidly changing. Technology is taking over the world and more and more people are become tech savvy. Even a year ago, more teens and families have gotten smartphones and computers.
I agree that the world is changing and soon everyone will have a computer in their home and everyone will have a smartphone. Even when that day comes, some new technology will be coming out. As a future educator, it is my job to stay up to date with that is going on in the world and help my students keep up also. I will have use the latest technology instead of an outdated chalkboard.

Mr. Winkle Wakes
On EDM 310 Class Blog, Mathew Needleman posted a video called "Mr. Winkle Wakes." In this video, they talk about similar aspects to what the previous video talked about. But in this one it talked about how the hospital and different businesses were improving in technology. As Mr. Winkle walks around the town going to corporations and hospitals, he sees that they are all using a computer and machines to help them. He then goes to a school and realizes that not much has changed in a hundred years. There was a computer in the room but it wasn't being used by the teacher or students.
The world is changing fast, businesses and hospitals are becoming more technological. Different machines are becoming invented to help people interact with people around the world and helping people survive and stay alive when they are sick. Learning is the same also, teachers lecture and students take notes. But I don't agree with computers are not used in the classroom. Teachers use computers to help lecture and students use computers to take notes. How to obtain knowledge will never change but making learning easier will.

The Importance of Creativity
"The Importance of Creativity" by Sir Ken Robinson on EDM 310 Class Blog, is all about the creativity of children. Sir Ken Robinson believes that creativity in kids are squashed and it starts in the classroom. He says that because kids are scared to be wrong, they can never search for their creativity. Also, he says that arts and dance is at the bottom of the hierarchy for learning. He believes creativity is just as important as mathematics. In light of the Mr. Winkle video, classrooms should also encourage the creativity of students not just the typical reading, writing, and arthritic. Kids shouldn't be afraid to be wrong.

Pinterest
Pinterest

Pinterest would be good for teachers because it can not only help you decorate your classroom in cute fun ways but it can also help create games and activities for students. Teachers can follow and repin other teachers and help them stay connected and come up with different ideas.

Blog Post 1

About me:
My name is Jasmine Smith. I was born in Georgia but I've lived all over the United States. I am privileged enough to have both of my parents serve for our country. My dad served twenty years in the Army and is now retired. My mom has been in the Air Force for six years now and is currently deployed to Afghanistan. Growing up being a military brat, I have lived in Georgia, New York, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and Mississippi. My family lives in Las Vegas, Nevada at the moment so that is where I call home. I have a younger brother that is my heart. We are eleven years apart which is very unusual for siblings that come from the same parents. I chose South Alabama because of cheerleading and I love cheering at south. Besides school, cheerleading takes up most of my free time so that is my hobby and interest. I want to be an Elementary teacher and the reason why I picked that is because I absolutely adore children and their fascinating growing minds. I want to help them develop different ways of learning because not everyone learns the same.

My Classroom:
When I become a teacher, I would want to help each student as much as I can. I know every person doesn't learn the same so I would hope that I could aid to each individual as uniquely as they are. I would also like to have as many hands-on learning activities as possible. Learning should be fun and I want to create an atmosphere where each student wants to come to school. I really want my children in my classroom to have the urge to learn, I know that there is always that one kid that just doesn't want to be there and doesn't want to learn. But children like that I want to change their way of thinking of school. If I can just help one kid love school and make an impact in their life then I will be okay. I don't think I would use more advanced tools other than a white board and a marker. I will probably make up learning games that the children can do. I've noticed that adults remember things better from elementary if the information was put into a song, that is probably another tool I would use. I haven't put much thought into what I want to put into my classroom. I love flowers and girly stuff but that probably wouldn't be the best things to put in there. I love colorful items and furniture, so that's most likely what I'll do. When I was in sixth grade, my teacher had a bath tub in her classroom with bunch of pillow in it. We could only sit in it if we were reading a book. It was really relaxing and it encouraged us to read. I would want a similar aspect to my classroom. I want to have something where the children can relax and not stress out about whatever is going on in their life. I really want to teach third grade, although I heard you don't get to chose what grade you want to teach. But I will be more than happy to teach any grade.

Randy Pausch on Time Management:
That was the first time I have ever seen Dr. Pausch but I learned to do the ugliest thing first. I've never thought about doing things that way when it come to to-do lists.
